Stylus Fantasticus (2018)

Froberger, Kerll, Bohm, Fischer, Bach, CPE Bach

Arend Grosfeld

Stylus Fantasticus stands for a “free and unrestrained form of composing” (Johannes Dieterich, Prorsus Inventa). I have chosen this title for a number of reasons. All of the works presented here have a very free form of composition, at times almost like a written out improvisation, going from key to key in a free and unconventional way. It is full of fast transitions and sudden changes in affect, which are very characteristic of this particular style. This program shows a less conventional side of German baroque keyboard music full of fantasy and freedom.

Arend Grosfeld

Arend Grosfeld is a Harpscihordist focusing on baroque and modern music for historical instruments.  He has studied and worked with baroque specialists such as Sigiswald Kuijken, Peter Kooij and Philip Pickett. He has taken various masterclasses with Skip Sempé, Pierre Hantaï and Gustav Leonhardt.

Arend studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. In Basel he specialized in Basso Continuo with Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, Andrea Marcon and Jesper Christensen.

Arend Grosfeld performs regularly as a soloist and ensemble player of both early and modern music.  In September 2011 Arend performed at the international festival of Ambronay. Here he played Bach's 'Hohe Messe' under the leadership of Sigiswald Kuijken touring across France, Italy and Portugal. He has also performed numerous concerts with the German baroque ensemble, ‘NeoBarock’ throughout Europe.

Currently he teaches Basso Continuo at the National University of Arts in Seoul, South Korea. In addition to his musical activities he is also researching Korean traditional instruments in depth at the Academy of Korean Studies.
